Can this 'Virtual Party' challenge our notion of the Virtual Classroom Space'?

Our virtual party, part of the Tampere Winter Gala, enabled a social get together with participants over 1600 miles apart.
What I find exciting about this environment is the transparency of the technology. We simply step into a shared space and interact. This video shows a social interaction, a party. The space was designed to enable theatre rehearsals. My question is, 'Could we use this approach to enable more connected learning'? I believe this technology really forces us to question the notion of classroom space!
