20th of October 2023 | 10.00 -12.00 pm | Online

This meeting will be around the theme of Student Engagement for Skills Development.

In the first hour we will hear from our guest speaker: Dr Anna Sidorovitch, Sheffield Hallam University on Implementing an Academic Reading Circles Approach with postgraduate students, and continue with a discussion

Guest Speaker Session overview:

Academic Reading Circles is an intensive reading approach whose components work on the basis that learners develop deep textual comprehension better through initial collaboration. The purpose of ARC is to improve learner engagement with and understanding of concepts in non-fiction texts. Working in small groups, students perform different roles and engage with a text through different lenses that draw attention to specific types of information. They co-construct knowledge discovered from these lenses for a clearer overall picture of the meaning and significance of the text.In this interactive session, the speaker will talk about her experience of adapting and implementing ARC with postgraduate students on a master’s teacher education programme.

CoP discussion overview:

Continuing from the discussions initiated through our guest speaker's session we will explore the theme of student engagement with and for skills development, by sharing our own experiences. There will be opportunities for participants to share both their successes and challenges
