Assessment is an extremely important factor in the student journey. One of the biggest challenges that the Higher Education sector is facing is how to design assessment to make it an integral part of students’ learning journey. Authenticity is the key in design of learning and assessment. In this guide, I introduce the main characteristics of authentic assessment and, based on research by Villarroel et al. (2018), provide a 3-step model to make assessment authentic. The guide also provides good case studies from across faculties.
